Partnerships

In our effort to build community, we work to develop new partnerships and collaborations in the school, literacy, community action, and book worlds.

Building community requires participation and cooperation.  In the nonprofit world of  limited resources it is paramount for community organizations to work in concert to further increase the value of what each contributes.

Turning the Page

Our beginning grew out of a partnership with Turning the Page (www.turningthepage.org), an organization focused on building school, parent, and student communities in Washington, DC.  Cooperative work through partnerships and sharing of ideas is a core value of both organizations. Our relationship with TTP was critical to Capital BookShare’s beginning and remains an important partnership for both organizations.

Busboys and Poets and Teaching for Change

Busboys and Poets (www.busboysandpoets.com) is much more than a restaurant, a forum for guest speakers and poets, and a book store.  It is a community hub for sharing ideas on social justice and peace.  Teaching for Change’s Busboys and Poets bookstore is committed to offering books that incorporate great reads that are written with intention, understanding and respect for all.  Teaching for Change’s (www.teachingforchange.org) bookstores are only one component of the TFC organization which is committed to developing school communities by “helping those who are traditionally excluded from the decision-making process become a part of it.”  Capital BookShare, Busboys and Poets and Teaching for Change are currently working on a number of future projects.
